Coyotes News

One week prior to draft day, Coyotes ownership group held a closed door meeting with the team’s senior management who was given a single mandate – Be the first to hoist the FBHL trophy at all cost. The team went into the draft believing that having a strong and balanced defence was the key to winning. After selecting Ryan Getzlaf in the first round, it drafted 4 defensemen in the next four rounds. The Coyotes was the first team to hit the magic $56.8M and after some careful selections, we were able to bring the final number under the cap. We weren’t sure if we had pin too much hope on our first two lines.

Five games into the new season, we got our answer. Coyotes management could finally breathe a little easier having witness the teams on-ice performance. The team, with 8 points, sits only 2 points behind the Aviators and Ettenings. Goalie Niklas Backstrom leads the league with 2 shutouts. Our balanced defence is lead by Shea Weber who has 5 points in 5 games. Braydon Coburn and Brent Seabrook have 8 blocked shots each.

Our true test comes on Day 17 verse the Aviators and on Day 23 verse Ettenings, but our main focus in on Ettenings as we are both in the same Conference. The only area of concerns at this time is the lack of production from our third and fourth lines. But what can we expect from the lowest third and fourth line payroll. We will be crossing our fingers and hoping some line juggling will solve the production issue. Keep watching, we are witnessing history in the making.
