Armed with the 5th overall pick, the Thrashers quickly cemented their future defense. Fans can look forward to Hanifin being paired with former lottery pick Adam Larsson, who quickly reclaimed his confidence after escaping the mismanagement of the Bullies franchise.
The rest of the Thrashers' picks were spread out amongst the later rounds, and GM Lau had to make do with selections of numerous boom/bust prospects to address the greatest organizational needs at the moment - scoring top 6 wingers

Thrashers have had a difficult several years at the draft. Successive years of lasting deep into the playoffs have deprived the Thrashers of any high picks, and GM Lau has had to make do with superior scouting in both the draft and the free agent market. As we near the quarter mark of the season, it's time for GM Lau to review his stable of prospects:
